Meet Our Team

ABOUT STEVE CAGLE
Steve Cagle, president of Hoops Global, developed his love for sports while living in Maryland.
He offered an extensive background in marketing, promotions, and business development and was hired as an executive for the minor league basketball team, Florida Sharks.
“I knew nothing about basketball, but Jim Jennings, who had hired me, told me that with my talent and skills, I would be a perfect fit. I took a chance, and working in minor league basketball, I absolutely enjoyed it.”
Steve would be hired as a general manager for the Miami Tropics for the United States Basketball League (USBL) the following year. There, he would meet Kevin Mackey who was hired as the head coach, so we ran that team for that season.
The following year, Steve was hired as the director of marketing for the Florida Beach Dogs in Palm Beach, Florida. He would work with Eric Musselman, a two-time NBA coach who has coached the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings, and is currently the coach at the University of Southern California’s basketball program. Steve would become part of the Atlantic City Seagulls, working with Kevin Mackey again, and the team would go on to win the USBL championship.
The New Jersey Shorecats would hire Steve as vice president of marketing for the team. He would work with head coach Rick Barry, one of the top 50 Hall of Fame players in the NBA. Steve would also work with Wilt Chamberlain, another NBA Hall of Fame top-50 player, for the Wilt Chamberlain Rising Star Shootout basketball tournaments in Boca Raton, Florida, where Steve served as the tournament director.
Steve would begin his radio career in Las Vegas, hosting various sports broadcasts, including the Inside Hoops basketball show and the Inside Touchdown football show. Steve would broadcast from the Lady Luck Casino, which is now the Grand Hotel. He was the headliner while hosting Inside Hoops in the showroom at the Tuscany Suites and Casino, with his name and show flashing on its neon sign.
“I am very blessed to learn the radio business, and I want to thank Debbie Hall, who coached me through a lot of times as part of the staff of the radio station. Through our efforts, we put the shows on the map with these remote broadcasts.
“I am looking forward to Hoops Global, the new adventure, with its podcast to be recorded in Las Vegas. I’m looking forward to future sponsorships for the Hoops Global, where people can wear our sportswear all around the globe. Our basketball player valuations will be handled by Kevin Mackey, who has worked as a scout, coached internationally, and served as a scout for the Indiana Pacers for 18 years. Hoops Global has hired Informer Media Group to handle our podcast and social media.”
About Kevin Mackey
Coach and scout Kevin Mackey was inducted into the American Basketball Hall of Fame in 2024 and is now ready for his new adventure with Hoops Global, where he will serve as the director of player personnel for the Hoops Global Pro Evaluation Camps 2.0, starting in 2025.
“I’ve discovered I can see how much talent players have and evaluate them properly, as well as advise. I have advised players who went on to play in the NBA. Some of the players wanted to play overseas. Some of them played basketball around the country in the leagues that were starting up, including USBL, ABL, CBL, CBA, and all these different leagues.”
Before Larry Bird hired Kevin as a scout for the Indiana Pacers, and after coaching internationally and in the United States Basketball League (USBL), Steve Cagle (President of Hoops Global) and Kevin would reconnect in Las Vegas (after working together) to start the Hoops Global Pro Evaluation Camps.
“We had players coming from all over the country for a couple of days, and we evaluated and advised them with a proper evaluation. It meant so much to them. Steve and I really loved it. We are ready to do it again.”
As for his backstory.
When Kevin was growing up in Somerville, Massachusetts (a city where you can put one foot in Boston and one foot in Somerville), he received a pair of hockey skates from his uncle and a basketball from his father.
“The first time I got on hockey skates, my ankles went over and it hurt. When I started playing basketball, I loved it.”
Kevin would play in high school and college, and then began coaching at Cathedral High in Boston. The team would win the New England Class B Championship. He would then coach at Don Bosco, winning three New England Class A Championship.
He would continue his career as an assistant coach at Boston College when the Big East was starting.
“We had tremendous success with three Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight, two Big East regular season championships.”
Kevin would become the head coach at Cleveland State, averaging over 20 wins a season, as well as the first time Cleveland State ever made the tournament to play against Indiana and Bobby Knight. Cleveland State, with the coaching of Kevin, would win and put them on the map.
Kevin would coach in the minor leagues for seven years, working with Steve Cagle (president of Hoops Global) in Atlantic City, where they would win the championship.
“It was just a great time. I coached overseas in Korea, Argentina, and Canada. Then I received a call one day from Larry Bird, asking me to find players for the Indiana Pacers. I was the first guy he hired for Indiana 23 years ago. I traveled all over the world finding players.”
He would always find players who were overlooked but had great inspirational stories.
“There are a lot of young players, and some players are getting a little older, and they want to be evaluated. It’s essential, I spend a lot of time, and I love it. I am thrilled we can continue this legacy.”
